UConn’s MSDS curriculum helps students work across the full data science lifecycle with data: from problem formulation, data collection through data curation, exploration, visualization, modeling, interpretation, communication, and deployment. Students also build competencies in machine learning and AI, including how to use data responsibly in automated or AI-supported systems.

• Use programming and statistical computing tools to build reproducible data science workflows with data.
• Apply machine learning methods for prediction, classification, clustering, and pattern recognition.
• Communicate insights clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Consider uncertainty quantification, privacy, fairness, bias, equity, and ethical AI as part of responsible data science practice.

Choose the Format That Fits Your Life

UConn offers two ways to earn the MS in Data Science. Both pathways follow the same 30-credit curriculum and include the applied capstone experience.

• On campus: 11-month, full-time, cohort-based program in Storrs, Connecticut.
• Online: 100% online, part-time program for students balancing graduate study with work or other responsibilities.
• STEM OPT: The on-campus pathway is STEM OPT approved for eligible international students.
