Applying to an MS in Data Science degree

To apply for admission to the MS in Data Science complete the application process which begins at the link below. Applicants must have completed a Baccalaureate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
Academic Preparation
Required Prerequisites
- One semester of Differential Calculus
- One semester of Statistics
- Coding experience (R and/or Python preferred but not required)
Recommended Prerequisites:
- Linear Algebra
- Multivariable Calculus
GRE scores are not required for admission to the MS in Data Science.
- The On-Campus is currently accepting applications for Fall 2025.
- Please note: there is no spring intake for the on-campus program.

Application Instructions
Applications will be evaluated upon receipt of all required documentation:
- A personal statement (1000 word maximum, double-spaced, standard 11 font type, and 1” margins) outlining your reason(s) for applying to the program (why data science?) reason(s) for applying to UConn (why UConn?), and reason(s) why you think the timing is right for you to pursue this degree at this time (why now?). We encourage you to connect the dots between your previous academic work, work-life experience, and how a graduate degree in data science from UConn aligns with your career goals and will facilitate your success.
- Current resume or CV (uploaded).
- One letter of recommendation that comes from an academic or professional source.
- Unofficial transcript(s) for all undergraduate and graduate coursework (uploaded).
- Official college transcript(s) mailed to The Graduate School (see address below). Please note that official transcripts from students' previous educational experience at UConn are not required.
- Successful candidates normally meet the recommended 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
- If you use the results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), you must have a minimum overall score of 550 for the paper-based test or 79 for the internet-based test. - GREs are not required.
- Residence Affidavit is not required.
- Fields marked with a red asterisk (*) on the application are required fields.
- A non-refundable $75 application fee. The MS in Data Science does not offer application fee waivers.
- After you apply, are admitted, and accept an offer of admission, please send The Graduate School your Official Transcript(s) in one envelope to the address listed below. Or, if your school(s) offer an electronic transcript service email them to gradadmissions@uconn.edu.

Note: The on-campus program only accepts students each fall. If you apply for the on-campus program for the spring semester, your application will not be evaluated until you defer your application to the fall semester.

Upon acceptance, a $300 non-refundable deposit toward your tuition will be required prior to course registration.
Note: Please anticipate 4 - 6 weeks between submitting a complete application and receiving a decision. Due to the nature of rolling admissions, it is highly recommended that applicants to the on-campus program apply before April 1st.
